5 Dec Planting Ceremony

Gosh its been ages since i last do an entry, the thing is that i cannot download pictures to my blog, something to do with my internet connection orrrrrrr my blog server is going haywire, but nevermind at least this morning i manage to download my recent pix.
Well last week, we had this twice yearly ( sometimes trice too) planting ceremony and joint venture between my University and JISE ( an independent organization in Japan). The project has been going for almost 14 years ( agak-agaklah tu). The purpose for the project is to reestablish the forest and so far i think the project have proven itself.
well as we all know, there was a lot of logging in Borneo and whats left was the secondary forest , which was logged until left was pure bare ground and soon the development of Oil Palm Estates. So one of the ways to reestablish the forest is to plant new tree of diff varieties.
The way to plant this plants differ to the ways plantation are doing. Plants are planted closer together and a exact hole is made , that only fit the polybag in order for plants would grow vertically upward. After that mulch are given to the plant to retain the soil moisture and this is important no campacting around the tree ( i dont know y, normally we compact newly planted tree, but the Japanese ask all of us not to compact the tree). So thats it, and leave it to grow by itself, no maintanance no manuring.

This is Our University reserve forest for teaching purposes.

The planting area, Dok Wan is doing an introduction.
